Hey, whatever works, right?
Every week there is a new diet fad that makes its way to the morning TV shows, social media, and commercials. You can see whatever trend is leading the pack because grocers and restauranteurs are bending toward the almighty dollar and trying their best to make their customers happy. Happy customers talk. However, if you are advertising falsely, upset customers let others know too. With social media, the good and bad press can spread like wildfire. When someone finds an honest to goodness dairy-free or gluten-free restaurant or product on the shelf, guess what? Yes, communities flock to the said place of business and try it for themselves.
Just this year I started out doing the Paleo diet because every January my church body does a church-wide fast. Since my hubby is of the finicky type, we chose not to do the Daniel Fast but instead try the Paleo diet. It was successful. We all did well staying the course for several months. After our vacation in the Spring and because of an advanced, scary esophagus problem (Achalasia) I have had for several years and finally got diagnosed in 2016, I chose to just quite gasping for air while trying to swallow and instead put myself on a liquid diet. Enough is enough.
Fruit smoothies, protein smoothies, and soups were my mainstay. It was quite successful, and my swallowing issue was so much better. Until…a friend introduced my daughter to
The Keto craze and I found out just how many carbs I had been ingesting. I did lose weight on the Paleo diet, although that wasn’t the purpose and I did lose weight on the liquid diet. However, once I realized the smoothies and soups I consumed daily, although easily swallowed, they were loaded with carbohydrates. So, I recently tried to modify my eating yet again and do a type of liquid Keto way of eating. Thank goodness for Kettle and Fire’s Chicken and Beef Bone Broth. I sip on that throughout the work day where I can’t afford to choke. I am still losing weight which is great, but man, oh man, I don’t like not knowing if the next bite will stay held up in my throat for a good long while. It ain’t easy folks!
To add to all of this already confusing mass of information, I recently had a hair analysis done to see if I was intolerant or allergic to any food and whatever else those fancy schmancy tests show. I received the results last week, and it showed I am dairy and gluten intolerant and also should not eat fruit and sugar within 6 hours of each other. Oh my goodness! Seriously! My daughter is helping me sort this out and experimenting with some delicious meals that are both gluten and dairy free.
I don’t know where you are in this meal-surfing craze (trust me I have done this my entire adult life) but right now I am riding the liquid-Keto wave with a splash of gluten-free, dairy-free and I’m still on top. The wave has not engulfed me.
